KPTS is celebrating 40 years of service to viewers in south central Kansas. Our first broadcast was January 5, 1970 when we signed on the air with Sesame Street. We have a number of activities and events planned for our year of celebration and we want you to join us. Be among the first to support KPTS during our Anniversary Year.

We’re throwing a party and we want you to join us. KPTS will celebrate our 40th Anniversary on Sunday, January 10th from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. at Wichita Ice Center. We’ll have skating, balloons, costume characters, door prizes, refreshments and more. Bring a new children’s book and receive free skating and skate rental. Join the party and Celebrate with Channel 8!

Revisit the early years of KPTS and see how the station has grown over four decades. Hear from some of those involved with KPTS during the early development of the station. You'll learn about fruitcake fundraising, the famous tin cup used to raise money, and how our local productions have evolved over the years. Interviews include David Brewer, one of the original KPTS producers; Ann Garvey, the original "Fruitcake Girl"; Irene Crews, former Board Chairperson and originator of the "Tin Cup" fundraiser; and many others.
